The sun gate and the monoliths

The sun gate must have had a very important significance for the people of Tiwanaku. For example there is a calender of the sun inscribed in it.

One of the two remaining monoliths. Many decorations are covering it.

Temple ruins can be found everywhere around the area of Tiwanaku.

And that's the other monolith. Unfortunately this one is not as well preserved and our guide had to look after a tour group, so we did not get any information about it.

In the village of Tiwanaku. The church was built by the Spaniards out of the stones that they found at the site of the temples... They certainly were very happy to find such nice well formed stones for their church!
