Vietnam
We spent altogether 3 weeks in Vietnam and partly enjoyed it but partly disliked it too! The landscapes are beautiful and stunning, the markets are the most colourful ones we had seen, and the whole atmosphere during the Chinese New Years festivities were wonderful.
But we had difficulties with the poeple living direct along the tourist trail and making their living off the tourist industry. If in a very obviously way or through scams we could not get rid of the feeling that they were digging a bit too deep into our pockets and had seen us only as a walking cash machine.
On the oposite side Vietnam offers a lot of very interesting and friendly people which live just a short way away from the tourity centers. We had lots of fun with the Chinese peoples in the North of the country with their colorful dresses, often only to be seen on markets, during our shoppings and bargains for the prices. During short walks through the rice-field-landscape they did help us find our way were ever they could.
But in the end the negative experiences did outlast the positive ones and so we left the country in the hope for better luck in Cambodia. But we met lots of other travellers whom we talked to who were very enthusiastic about there experiences in Vietnam. So we do not want to discourage you to have a look to Vietnam to experience it yourself!
